Key Warning Signs to Check Your Ignition

When you turn your key in the ignition and your car won't start, it may be something other than a dead battery. Our FIAT service department points to five warning signs that your car's starter need immediate attention.

One warning sign that a starter is failing is a grinding noise when you start your engine. A whining noise is also bad news, meaning the starter gear is failing to engage with the flywheel, causing a condition known as freewheeling. Any sign of smoke means a connection problem or a short in the starter. If oil has leaked onto your starter, you'll have problems achieving full ignition. And if the solenoid that transmits battery current to the starter motor has worn out, a check up of your starter is required.

Our auto parts and service department can diagnose a wide range of starter issues and get you back on the road.
